How Hanbok Rental at Gyeongbokgung Works

Book a time, pick and put on your hanbok at the shop, walk to the palace and go in free, and bring it back on time.

  1. Book the Length You Need

Rentals run from an hour to a full day; two to four hours covers the palace and a walk outside it. Go early if you want your hair done: one guest this October found a long queue for it.

  2. Choose and Dress

Pick from more than 1,500 hanbok, traditional or premium, and staff help you put it on. Your own clothes go in a locker. Hairstyling and extra accessories cost more and are paid at the shop.

  3. Walk In Free

At Heungnyemun Gate you go in without a ticket. The rule is a jeogori, the short jacket, with a skirt or trousers; a hanbok coat over ordinary clothes does not count.

  4. Return on Time

Check the return time on your voucher. Gyeongbokgung is closed on Tuesdays; the shop then opens only 8:30am to 3:30pm and the other palaces are where to go.

The Guide

What a Rental Gets You, and the Rule at the Gate

Entry is free in hanbok, but only in a full outfit. The shop decides how long you have and what is in the price.

The most reviewed hanbok rental at Gyeongbokgung is Daehan Hanbok’s: you choose from more than 1,500 hanbok, staff dress you, and the palace lets you in free for as long as you wear it. It is sold as Hanbok Rental with Gyeongbokgung Palace Entry, from US$8 a person for the shortest rental (checked October 2026), and rated 4.6 out of 5 from 1,008 reviews, more than any other product at the palace on GetYourGuide.

What is in the price

The rental includes the hanbok, an underskirt, a handbag, a hairband and a locker for your own clothes. Hairstyling is extra and bought at the shop, and so are a petticoat for a fuller skirt and the more elaborate accessories. The listing sells traditional and premium hanbok and rentals from one hour to a full day, and the price rises with the time and the style. Recent guests mention the size of the choice and the value; the complaints are about crowds, and one reviewer this October waited a long time for the hair styling because one person was doing it. Go early, or skip the hair if you are short of time.

The rule at the palace gate

Free entry is for a full hanbok outfit: a jeogori, the short jacket, worn with a skirt or trousers. Modern and fusion styles count, and so does either the men’s or the women’s cut, whoever wears it. A hanbok-style coat over your own clothes does not, and a one-piece dress counts only if it clearly has a jeogori with an overlapping collar and a separate skirt. The heritage service has said the free-entry benefit is under review, so it may not last into 2027; in October 2026 it still applies. The hanbok entry guide has the detail.

The same outfit gets you into the other palaces. The rental listing names Changdeokgung, Gyeonghuigung, Deoksugung and Changgyeonggung as free in hanbok, which matters on a Tuesday, when Gyeongbokgung is closed and the shop opens only from 8:30am to 3:30pm.

gigibebe hanbok includes the hair styling, which Daehan charges for, and lists sizes from S to XXXL for women and up to XXXXL for men; it closes at 7pm and charges ₩5,000 an hour for late returns. Hanboknam is the closest to the subway, has more than 1,000 hanbok from baby sizes to XXL, stores large suitcases free, and does not count the time spent choosing and having your hair done as rental time; its own peak is 9am to noon.

Add a photographer

A rental and a phone are enough for most people. If you want photos you will frame, a photographer works the palace with you for an hour: Aurea Studio’s hanbok photoshoot is from US$113 without the rental, and DDOTRIP’s photoshoot is from US$113 with the hanbok included. "Renting a hanbok to visit Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul was an incredible experience! The welcome is warm, and there is a wide selection of outfits. We had a wonderful time thanks to this traditional outfit rental! Don't hesitate – the value for money is unbeatable!"

Alicia France

"We found this place through a TikTok video and loved it. It was just like in the video. We felt like queens. Thank you for this wonderful activity."

Miriana Italy

"Excellent service. There are plenty of costume options, but there are a lot of people and it's hard to get help."

Ezau Mexico

"The lineup for hair do was long and they only had one person doing it for awhile until another person came. Extra staff for this would be more efficient for everyone. Other than that they had a huge selection of beautiful gowns that was difficult to choose! The experience of wearing this and walking around the palace was like a fairytale dream."

Anita Canada

"Good place to rent! Lots of options ! Close to the palace as well!"

Sudharsun Australia

"We had a wonderful shoot! Our photographer was outstanding! Highly recommended!"

Natalie Germany

"The hanbok was beautiful. I loved the experience. They are very efficient with the process. I came, they told me from which hangers I can choose the hanbok. They helped me to wear it on. I additionally added the hair setup. I had it on almost whole day and got many compliments."

Monika Poland

"Highly recommended experience! The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a very wide selection of hanboks, both for women and for men. The accessories were also very nice."
